Dear indie friends,
A house can be empty and still refuse to let you in.
Maison Vide is my new track. I wrote it more than a year ago, but it took a long time to come out of the ground.
My mother died four and a half years ago. The house where I spent my entire childhood had to be emptied, and my brother, sisters and I found ourselves caught by the throat by everything it contained. Memories were not stored neatly in boxes. They were on the walls, behind the furniture, inside objects that suddenly asked impossible questions: keep, give away, throw out, and who gets to decide?
At one point, I could no longer enter the house at all. So, I wrote a song…
With the precious help of Caroline, aka Doryphore, I eventually gave that house a voice: a house that creaks, snickers, watches me and slowly gives way to the passing years.
Today, “Maison Vide” will be heard for the first time, and only, in Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda. It is not on the streaming platforms yet. I will play the long version, exclusively, and I very much want to know what it leaves behind in you.
