Dear indie friends,
There is something wonderfully unreasonable about making another song.
You’ve seen the numbers. You’ve met the algorithm. You probably have other things to do. And yet, somewhere between a stubborn idea and a guitar within reach, you decide that this one deserves to exist too.
The optimism of the indie artist has no sensible limit. I’m rather fond of that.
This week, Nikola Zenko brings a song back from almost twenty years ago. wretched Redemption opens a new chapter. Sonophagen sends over a track called “Inmortal”. Even my inbox appears unwilling to accept an ending.
My own wish right now is simple: to give as much of my energy as I can to people ready to create, to offer something, to help their message reach beyond the room where it began. A love letter. A furious song about a dictatorship. Whatever needs saying.
On the blog, I’m opening that thought a little further, including the increasingly expensive business of sharing a simple link.
Meanwhile, there are a few people I’d like you to meet.
My STARS of the WEEK
1 · 🇺🇸 wretched Redemption — Something New (wretched Redemption)
Turning the page with hopeful intentions and a little of the old weight still showing.
2 · 🇲🇽 Sonophagen — Inmortal
Dark electronic momentum, with a title that refuses to call it a night.
A few more names on the horizon
This week discovery shortlist stretches from Glass Rabbit and LA WOMEN to Crystal Eyes, Orchid Orchid, Pilotinthepicture feat. Josefine Winter, and Rainburn.
Two names are first in line for a closer look: Rainburn “Confessions”, for its unusual narrative premise, and Glass Rabbit “Damn Shame”, for the emotional progression described in the selection notes.
I’ve kept the wider discovery list on the blog. These are leads to explore, rather than an announced radio playlist.
Every Friday at 4:00 PM (Brussels time) a new episode of Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda will take place on salon.mitxoda.be, don’t miss it.
Your chair is still here
Le Salon Indie is YOUR salon. Open to everyone, no matter what.
Bring your curiosity. Bring a song. Bring whatever language your music speaks. The show is hosted in French; the welcome needs no translation.
One last grumble before I put the kettle on: Facebook is restricting some professional accounts and Pages to two organic posts containing external links per month unless they take a paid subscription. It isn’t a universal rule, but it is a remarkably small door for anyone trying to share their work.
“Free” starts to sound rather peculiar when the way out comes with a price tag.
That makes me all the more glad we can meet here, and over on the blog.
Until next week,
May that little idea you nearly gave up on find a bit of room this week.
Sending lots of love to all of you. And thank you again, to read me. You are more than 500, every week. You can’t imagine what it means to me.
