Dear indie friends,
It’s raining here in Brussels. I could do with a little warmth.
Luckily, some arrived from Berlin.
My friend SFSF wrote a beautiful message about the Salon, the artists we bring into it, and the friendships growing around the music. Then, almost at the end, she added:
“I hope the house doesn’t feel quite so empty now...”
Some of you will remember Maison Vide, and what it took to empty the house where I grew up. She remembered too. That little sentence stayed with me.
This week, I had also been sending love in another direction: to Elizabeth Duchess, whose wonderful historical podcasts have been travelling with me on the métro. Her voice in my ears, a rather dark story unfolding, Brussels carrying on around me. I told her how much I enjoyed it. She sent warmth straight back.
Berlin. Brussels. Someone making music. Someone telling stories. Someone taking the time to say: I heard you.
There’s something here I want to sit with a little longer, what happens when the person behind a song begins to feel less alone. I’ve left the rest of that thought, Elizabeth’s listening recommendation and this week’s discoveries on the blog.
My STARS of the WEEK
Three doors into this week’s discoveries.
🇺🇸 Glass Rabbit — Damn Shame
A small guitar-and-voice idea grows into a much louder conversation. Some feelings eventually need the volume.
🇮🇳 Rainburn — confessions
A song from a survival story at sea, asking what we carry when time begins to feel terribly short.
🇮🇪 Taylor D — Obsession
From the four-track EP BAD DECISIONS. An excellent title for a record; a less reliable approach to Friday evening.
The wider selection continues on the blog with pilotinthepicture, Crystal Eyes, Orchid Orchid, JoDan Music, Alex Sitze, four songs from Gizmosophy, and a Halloween corner with Ataraxia Music and Elektrik Ghosts, the latter introduced by its creator as an AI alter-ego project.
LAST FRIDAY: THE MUSIC DESERVED A BETTER MICROPHONE
Episode 75 was called Numbers are numbers. My microphone apparently decided that words were optional.
It really let me down. A little “shame on me” moment, because those artists deserved better around their songs. The selection still deserves your ears, and I’d love you to spend some time with it.
Every Friday at 4:00 PM (Brussels time) a new episode of Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda will take place on salon.mitxoda.be, don’t miss it.
TODAY, YOUR CHAIR IS WAITING
Friday, October 9 · 4 PM Brussels time · live on OTAT247
SFSF, Rainburn, Glass Rabbit, Sonophagen and Liva are among the artists joining today’s Salon. There are more people to meet, and I’m keeping a few doors closed until we’re together.
The show is in French. Come as you are, bring your curiosity, and invite a friend who could use a little music today.
If you’re listening, send me a little hello. If a song stays with you, tell the artist. You’ve just read what a few words can do.
Until next week,
May a little warmth find you, wherever the rain has caught you.
Love on you, as always.
