Mitxoda Weekly #2 – New Instrumentals, Collaborations, and More!

Let’s dive into new sounds, lessons learned, and upcoming projects this week!

Song of the Week : Sourire au Chaos by Mitxoda (released on Sept 30, 2024).

Hi friend!

Welcome back to Mitxoda Weekly #2! I’m thrilled to have you here as we continue exploring music, creativity, and all the exciting things happening around Mitxoda. Let’s get started!

Let’s dive right in!

Au menu, this week:

Insight of the Week: The Power of Instrumentals

Instrumental tracks often speak volumes without saying a word. As I’m about to release two new instrumental pieces (more info next week 😃 ), I've been reflecting on how pure sound can evoke emotion, tell a story, and transport the listener to another world. Some of the most talented artists in the indie scene, like Ghost of Rucker and Histheory, have mastered this art. Their ability to create immersive soundscapes, with layers of synths that transport you, is truly inspiring.

Sometimes, instrumentals offer a welcome break from vocals. I mean, we’ve all had those moments when we get a bit bored with someone’s voice. I sing in French myself, but soon I’ll be releasing my first track in English—a new milestone for me. Maybe that’s why I find comfort in instrumentals as well; they allow you to get lost in the music without needing words. 😅

There are many more amazing artists I’ll be mentioning in future editions—each with their own unique universe waiting to be explored.

From the Depths: Unleashing Sourire au Chaos

The time has come to unleash "Sourire au Chaos" officially released on September 30th. This track embodies the raw, unpredictable energy of living through disorder. It’s a soundscape where tension meets release, where calm is shattered by distortion, and yet, in the middle of the storm, a smile breaks through. This is a journey into chaos itself, a reflection of how we cling to moments of light when everything around us spirals. The World Premiere happened on OTAT247 - On The Air Tonight, boosted by the wonderful Dave and Lisa - check the replay here! If you don’t know them yet, please send them love on their Facebook page 🥰

Let yourself get lost in the chaos, and see what emerges on the other side.

Poll: What Instrument Moves You Most?

I want to know what instrument in instrumentals speaks to you the most! Let’s take a quick poll:

  • Guitar

  • Synth

  • Piano

  • Drums

  • Other

Let’s see what resonates most with you when it comes to instruments!

Results from last week’s poll (What Inspires You Most?): Music and Personal Experiences tied at 50%, with Visual Art, Literature, and Nature receiving no votes.

Story Time: Mitxoda, part 2

When I started Mitxoda, I had plenty of material—I composed and wrote a lot in a short period, which gave me content to distribute online. But one thing I hadn’t done before was mixing my own tracks. That was a whole new challenge for me, and I made plenty of beginner mistakes along the way.

Thankfully, tools like DistroKid’s simple mixer helped bridge the gap in my knowledge. While it’s not perfect, it allowed me to move forward and release my music. But as I continue to improve, I’ve also been finding incredible resources, like the work from Neuro Divergence, who’s been writing helpful and detailed posts on mixing and music creation.

His latest post on Editing and Mixing dives deep into the process, covering everything from trimming audio to mastering equalization. It’s the kind of practical advice that really helps artists like me take their tracks to the next level. If you’re interested, you can check out Neuro Divergence’s work here—it’s been a valuable resource as I continue to grow in this area.

Each track has been a step toward improving, and I’m excited to keep learning and growing through the process.

Hint hint! My next song, “No Rescue”, will be released on October 18, 2024.

"No Rescue" is a collaborative song between two independent musicians: Mitxoda, from Brussels, Belgium, and Sonophagen, a band from Aguascalientes, Mexico. This collaboration between two nations, two cultures and two different contexts was made possible by the same language: music.

Playlist of the Week: "What a Scene!" by Myles O’Flaherty Music

This week, I want to highlight "What a Scene!", a playlist curated by Myles O’Flaherty Music from Hamilton, Australia.

Myles is more than just a curator—he’s a key figure connecting the indie community. His passion for uplifting independent artists is evident in every playlist he creates.

"What a Scene!" showcases incredible talents and reflects his dedication to supporting indie music. Take a moment to listen and experience the magic of this thriving community.

Artistic Spotlight: Feminoise – The Sonic Alchemy of Mood and Melody

This week, we shine a light on Feminoise, an indie pop project with a twist, masterminded by a Texas public school teacher. Feminoise’s journey has been one of rediscovery and renewal. After years of putting music aside for family and a career, the 2020 lockdown reignited the spark. Inspired by music documentaries, especially The Punk Singer featuring Kathleen Hanna, Feminoise was born again. As the acoustic guitar came off the wall, songs began to flow, filling a void that hadn’t been missed until it returned. It was a moment of soul renewal, and from that came Feminoise—a project layered with mood, melody, and middle age.

Influenced by artists like The Breeders, St. Vincent, and Sonic Youth, Feminoise's sound blends distorted guitars and synth into emotive and textured indie pop. Their sound is deeply introspective, often with a darker tone that evokes the '90s indie scene.

Feminoise’s collaborations are another testament to their creative spirit. They’ve worked with Bärkər on Dystopian Communications, MECHANIC A on the splendid Deadfall, Entropy in Motion on the stunning When Nostalgia Ends, and Stolen of the Sky on the poignant The End of Me. Each partnership adds new layers to Feminoise’s rich soundscapes, highlighting their ability to connect and grow with other artists in the indie scene.

Bärkər, commenting on the Nostalgia Issue album, encapsulated the magic of Feminoise’s music: "This could very well be one of the greatest musical finds of my 50+. Should we dance? Should we stop and groove the lyrics? Should we come out of each and every listen wishing for more?"
