Song of the Week : To Understand by Shannon D’Arcy (released on Sept 13, 2024).
Hi friend!

Make yourself at home as we dive into this week’s edition, filled with fresh releases, indie insights, and more. Let’s keep the music flowing.
Au menu, this week:
Unveiling No Rescue: A Journey Through Darkness
FINALLY!!!! 😃 Today, October 18, marks the release of No Rescue featuring Sonophagen and myself—a track that represents more than just a collaboration. It’s a reflection of personal battles I faced years ago. The lyrics were written during a difficult time when I felt like there was no one to turn to, and I was left to confront myself.
No Rescue captures that pivotal moment where you realize no one is coming to save you—it’s up to you. The song blends raw emotion with Sonophagen's intense guitar work, creating a soundscape that mirrors the struggle between isolation and inner strength.
This song isn’t about waiting for rescue; it’s about finding the courage to move forward on your own terms. Listen to No Rescue now and experience the journey for yourself.
Yesterday evening, some of you had the chance to discover this new track in Dave and Lisa fantastic show "On the Air Tonight 247” (OTAT247) - A wonderful World Première with them, Muchas Gracias!, as they say in Mexico.

Story Time: Mitxoda, part 4
In our journey through the Mitxoda catalog, we’ve arrived at La Vie File—a track that marked my first serious attempt at combining guitar and vocals, enriched with atmospheric keyboard layers. This song was written during a time when friendship—or the absence of it—felt especially raw to me. The lyrics reflect that struggle, capturing the bittersweet realization of growing apart from people who once meant everything.
![]() | La Vie File represents the idea that while life moves forward and relationships change, the memories and emotions tied to those connections remain. It’s a deeply personal song, one that taught me about letting go, even when it hurts. |
But this song also reflects something deeper. In moments of loneliness and separation, it’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing others as the enemy—blaming, judging, and holding on to what went wrong. But through this experience, I realized that no one is truly an enemy. Both sides lose when we spend time in conflict. We lose the chance to reconnect, to understand what really lies beneath our words, our actions, and our misunderstandings.
Yes, it hurts. And sometimes the damage is too deep to repair. But both parties lose the opportunity to feel the real world behind every single communication path. La Vie File is a reminder that while we may grow apart, we don’t need to stay trapped in that feeling of loss and regret. Instead, we can learn to let go—not out of defeat, but as a way to find peace and move forward. Listen to it again, with lyrics, on Bandcamp here.
Fun Fact of the Week: The Lighter Side of Music Production
![]() | Sometimes, the music industry throws in a little humor, even where you least expect it! While uploading my latest track to DistroKid, I stumbled upon a contributor role dropdown that included… Drug Dealer. No joke! - Well I guess we talk about medecine? 😃 No matter how intense the creative process can get, there’s always space for a good laugh. After all, making music should be fun, too, right? |
Playlist of the Week: "Stollen Tracks #1" by Mike Stollen
This week, I want to highlight "Stollen Tracks #1", a playlist curated by Mike Stollen from Lisbon, Portugal. Mike Stollen is known for his evocative lyrics and haunting melodies that explore life's complexities… I know the feeling 😅 "Stollen Tracks!" highlights remarkable talents and demonstrates his commitment to championing indie music. Opening act by Caitlin Lavagna is pure beauty followed randomly by Deedra Patrick, Berlos Band & Regifter, Andy Carr and many other great artists! Take a moment to listen and immerse yourself in the magic of this vibrant community. |
Historical Fact of the Week: A Nobel First
On October 13, 2016, American singer and songwriter Bob Dylan became the first musician ever to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Recognized for his poetic expressions within the great American song tradition, Dylan’s win marked a historic moment in both music and literary circles.
Artistic Spotlight: Jay El Dee's "Blow My House Down"
Jay El Dee has taken a unique approach to storytelling in the indie music scene with her latest release, Blow My House Down. This single isn't just a standalone piece; it's the gateway to a larger narrative that reimagines the True Story of the Big Bad Wolf. What sets this project apart is Jay's innovative fusion of evocative music with a serial storytelling format, where she gradually unveils the chapters of her story alongside the music. (and honestly, I can’t wait to read the next chapters!!)
![]() | Blow My House Down is remarkable not only for its lyrical depth but also for its intricate sound design, which masterfully incorporates subtle yet poignant wolf-like sounds behind Jay's vocals. These sounds, sometimes charming and sometimes unsettling, enrich the narrative, enhancing the listening experience by adding a layer of emotional and auditory depth. Jay's skillful blending of these elements captivates her audience, drawing them into the lore of the Big Bad Wolf, seen through a new lens. As listeners, we find ourselves eagerly anticipating the remaining chapters, curious to discover how Jay will conclude this fascinating tale. |
Jay El Dee’s approach goes beyond music, creating a storytelling experience that invites listeners to see things differently and keeps them engaged throughout.
With Blow My House Down, Jay El Dee confirms her status as a groundbreaking artist in the indie music world, promising a journey that's as thrilling musically as it is narratively.
Echoes from the Indie World: A Word from Myles O'Flaherty
Recently, the incredibly talented Myles O'Flaherty shared his thoughts on my track "Sourire au Chaos":
"This is one release I’ve been particularly looking forward to since that sweet ‘new music release’ scent hit my nostrils and filled my mind with sheer delight!"
I’ve always believed that the indie music community thrives on mutual support, and it’s moments like this that remind me why. It fuels my passion for creating and sharing music.
A big thank you to Myles and the entire indie community for the ongoing support ❤️ .
Until Next Week: Stay Tuned, Stay Indie
Indie music has always thrived on authenticity and connection, and this week’s lineup in Mitxoda Weekly perfectly captures that spirit. Starting with Bob Dylan, the first musician to win a Nobel Prize in Literature, his influence on storytelling in music remains a guiding light for indie artists today. Take Shannon D’Arcy, whose track To Understand delves deep into vulnerability, or the collab I made with Sonophagen on No Rescue weaves raw emotion with powerful guitar work. Like Dylan, we use music to share deeply personal narratives.
Jay El Dee takes storytelling even further with her track Blow My House Down, using it as the foundation for a serial tale that reimagines the Big Bad Wolf. Meanwhile, Myles O’Flaherty’s support for Sourire au Chaos is a reminder of the mutual respect within the indie community—where fans and artists uplift one another. Mike Stollen’s Tracks #1 playlist also highlights this diversity and collaboration, featuring talents like Berlos Band and Caitlin Lavagna.
Through storytelling, innovative soundscapes, and a strong sense of community, these artists keep the indie spirit alive, and Mitxoda Weekly is your gateway to it all.
