Hey my friend,

Every week, somewhere between the noise and the silence, we gather here, artists, dreamers, and listeners who still believe that music means something. From Italy’s poetic voices to Ireland’s quiet revolution, this edition celebrates authenticity in all its forms. You’ll meet those who keep creating not for fame, but for truth, and maybe, you’ll feel a bit more connected to that pulse we all share.

Love, and thank you for reading me.

OTAT247: Indie Autumn Highlights : October 2025

October was unforgettable for OTAT247. Listener hours hit new records, but the real win was their expanding music family, fans, bands, DJs, and show hosts, both new and returning.

The heart of the month was Punk In the Corn Festival: not just great music, but a true community reunion. Artists and organizers made it magic and inspired talk of next year’s “Corn Stock.” (or something like that 🙂 )

You should know that Dave & Lisa represent honest connection, open doors, and true indie music discovery. Thank you for being who you are, every day, every time we connect. I’m truly proud to be part of the OTAT24 family!

Artist Spotlight: Raffaella Piccirillo

Raffaella Piccirillo is an Italian singer-songwriter, vocalist, author, and radio producer whose work radiates authenticity and artistic depth. Moving fluidly across genres and languages, she creates music that blends craft, soul, and storytelling, each song carrying a personal signature that’s unmistakably hers.

Recently featured in Bold Journey Magazine, Raffaella spoke candidly about her path as an independent artist: the challenges of visibility, the courage to stay true to one’s voice, and the joy of building real connections through music and media. Though celebrated internationally, she admits that at home she sometimes feels unseen, wondering how global recognition can still feel intimate and local at heart.

Her career spans much more than songwriting: she produces, performs, and has been running her own radio show for an incredible 14 years, a testament to her dedication and love for sharing music with others.

She is also the official representative of Italy in the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) and has been recognized internationally for her music, including winning the Akademia Music Award for Best Pop Rock EP in 2015 and Best Music Video in Alternative Rock in 2016.

I had the honor of featuring one of her songs (My Identity) earlier this year on Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda, and it was clear right away: Raffaella isn’t just making music; she’s building bridges between hearts, languages, and worlds.

Listen to her, feel her, and you’ll understand why authenticity never goes out of style.

Ireland Just Proved What We Already Knew

Something important just happened in Ireland, and it matters far beyond its borders: the country has decided to make its Basic Income for the Arts permanent. After three years of testing, the numbers were undeniable, when artists have a steady floor under their feet, they create more, they collaborate more, they feel better, and society benefits in return.

Other countries already know versions of this story (France with its intermittent system, Germany with shared social insurance, Finland with multi-year creative grants). But in Belgium, where we have strong cultural institutions but still no income continuity, many artists continue to live right on the edge. A pilot here, inspired by Ireland’s model, would not be a luxury; it would be a way to protect the quiet, invisible work that holds communities together. Art is not decoration. It’s the part of us that listens, that remembers, that connects. When we support artists, we’re really supporting everyone.

Historical Fact: The Stoughton Musical Society (1786–1790)

On November 7, 1786, in the small Massachusetts town of Stoughton, a group of townspeople gathered to sing, and in doing so, founded the Stoughton Musical Society, the oldest musical society in the United States.

Formed just after the Revolutionary War, it gave early America a new kind of harmony: disciplined, communal, and proudly homegrown. The singers met in homes and churches, performing works by early American composers like William Billings and shaping the nation’s first organized choral tradition.

In 1790, they competed in the country’s first singing contest, and won. That victory marked not just musical excellence but a declaration that American culture could stand on its own.
