Hey my indie friend,
This week, I told my fellow musicians that I’m stepping away from my music band. Have you ever faced a moment like this yourself, leaving something you loved, knowing it was the right step, but still feeling the weight of it?
Leaving my band was one of the hardest decisions I’ve taken in years. Fourteen years is not nothing. It shaped me, challenged me, carried me, and I know the others are hurt even more than I do. I owe them so much, and I’ll never pretend otherwise.
But life shifted. A new band welcomed me, and with them comes renewal, a different path, a different pulse, a chance to explore fresh musicality and dive into the energy of new minds. Moving forward doesn’t mean erasing the past. Those years stay with me, and they always will.
At the same time, Mitxoda grew into something far beyond anything I imagined. In just fifteen months, more than 3.5k people joined across all socials. Every week, around 500 readers gather for the Weekly. The radio show keeps breaking its own records, playing and replaying from Mixcloud to indie stations all over.
So yes, it hurts. But it’s also a beginning. Another chapter. Another breath.
This is the 61st Weekly, and I hope you enjoy it. Make sure to read it all the way to the end, there are lots of artists to discover!
Love,
Mitxoda

🎧 Kier Le Bail — Un Monde à Part
📅 2024 • 🇫🇷 La Réunion / France
Chanson française | Indie Folk | Poetic
🔗 Clip (première today, Friday Nov 21 at 4:30pm CET) : https://youtu.be/BCwb1mvafGo?si=vL-nNVArKNLR
With Un Monde à Part, Kier Le Bail delivers a delicate, heartfelt reflection on our growing inability to truly communicate, contrasted with the cultural richness and human warmth of the Mascareignes, especially La Réunion.
The song evokes a place where people genuinely listen, where diversity is lived rather than theorized, and where history’s scars (Code Noir, marronnage) coexist with a deep spirit of unity.
Written, composed, performed, and mixed entirely by Kier, the track feels like a quiet journey toward humility and reconnection.
A poetic, intimate release. Very good to know that somewhere, there are worlds built on dialogue and respect.

Historical Fact: Beethoven’s Lone Opera Takes the Stage
On November 20, 1805, in Vienna, Ludwig van Beethoven premiered Fidelio, the first and only opera he would ever compose.
Inspired by themes of justice, loyalty, and freedom, the work reflected Beethoven’s own moral ideals during a period marked by political turmoil and Napoleon’s occupation of Vienna.
The premiere, however, took place before an audience made up largely of French soldiers, resulting in a lukewarm initial reception. Despite this difficult debut, Fidelio was refined in later versions and ultimately became celebrated as a powerful testament to human courage and love.

Nadine's Indie Treasures: Fenix Falling
Selected with precision by Nadine de Macedo
Fenix Falling's music just drew me in at first listen. I still remember this piano melody on "You may know", and continued my way through "Fall Out", "Open your yes" and many other songs. This two man band has a very distinct style, that you can't miss. Don't forget, that the lead vocalist is also hosting a radio show "The Underground Signal", that is aired on Lakes Radio and also on YouTube.
