Hey my indie friend,
Some stories deserve to be held with care. This week’s edition opens with one of them.
Every December, Richard from BROOMFILLER has brought a Punk Rock Christmas cover into the world, five years of music made in honour of Sarah Hamby, whose courage and joy inspired an entire community. This year, after her passing, Richard couldn’t release a new track. Instead, he’s inviting all of us to keep her spirit alive by sharing the songs that carried hope into places where it was most needed.
And today, something equally meaningful is happening.
Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda returns with an exceptionally special moment: the world premiere of The Secret of the Future, the breathtaking first collaboration between Nadine de Macedo and Sonia Hutchinson. I’m deeply honoured to debut it live today at 4PM CET, a rare privilege and a reminder of how emotional and generous the indie world can be.
This edition is a tapestry of remembrance, resilience, and radiant new music. Let’s step into it together.
Happy reading,
Love, Mitxoda
Honouring Sarah: Five Years of Punk Rock Christmas for a Cause
Every December 1st, Richard from BROOMFILLER would usually be celebrating the release of a brand-new Punk Rock Christmas cover, a tradition he started five years ago to raise awareness and funds, and to bring a little joy into the world.
The heart behind this project was Sarah Hamby, whose courage while battling leukaemia inspired everything.
Sarah passed away on October 6th, 2025, leaving a profound impact on everyone who knew her and countless people whose lives she touched.
Because of this loss, Richard wasn’t able to complete a new track this year. Instead, he’s inviting the community to help honour the last five years of this fundraising tradition by sharing the songs far and wide, radio, blogs, TikTok, playlists, anywhere music travels.
Each week, he’ll highlight one of the previous Christmas releases, starting with the track that began it all back in 2020: “Silent Night.”
The songs are available everywhere, but Bandcamp contributes the most to Sarah’s fundraising, making each purchase even more meaningful.
Direct donations in Sarah’s name:
SickKids Hospital : https://give.sickkidsfoundation.com/event/view/sarahtheleukaemiawarriorprincess
Richard closes with gratitude for every band, engineer, friend, family member and stranger who supported Sarah’s journey through music and shared her story.
And he promises: a new song will return next December.
Respect.

Artistic Spotlight : The Secret of the Future

The Secret of the Future marks the first collaboration between composer-producer Nadine de Macedo and singer-songwriter Sonia Hutchinson, and the result is nothing short of breathtaking. This emotionally charged rock ballad traces a journey through adversity, transforming painful memories into a powerful call for resilience and renewal. It embraces the idea of a blank canvas, the brave decision to leave the past behind and step with intention into a future you choose. I genuinely love this song, and I consider it the best track I’ve heard this entire year. As Mitxoda, I’m deeply honoured to play it for the very first time worldwide as a World Premiere on Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda this Friday at 4PM CET (Brussels time), which means 10AM in New York, 7AM in Los Angeles, 3PM in London, and 12AM in Sydney. Tune in on salon.mitxoda.be
The official release is set for Friday, December 19, and you can already pre-save it here: https://too.fm/ndm-the-secret-of-the-future
Both Nadine and Sonia shared heartfelt testimonies about their collaboration, a partnership rooted in emotion, trust, and sheer artistic excellence, resulting in a song that resonates deeply from the very first note.
Thank you, ladies ❤

Big news from The English Assassin: the debut solo album Dear America, It's Not Us, It's You is finally out. Available now on vinyl & CD in Europe, CD in North America, and digital worldwide.
A record that dives straight into the hard truths: political corruption, school shootings, male violence, genocide, cruelty turned into policy… and the resistance that refuses to fade. In moments like this, the message couldn’t be clearer: You have to choose.

🎧 Gizmosophy — Remember, America
📅 2025-12-12 • 🇺🇸 USA
Alternative Rock | Indie Folk | Anthemic
Gizmosophy, led by Gregg Oliver, returns with a deeply reflective new single, Remember America.
Built like a modern folk-rock anthem, the track reflects on a nation’s journey through ambition, contradiction, hope, and rediscovery.
The song moves through three evolving verses, each capturing a moment in time, from the early struggle toward equality, to the slow march of progress, to the loss (and potential reclamation) of compassion.
The repeating refrain “Remember, America” echoes like a call to collective memory, unity, and accountability.
Musically, it blends earnest vocals, warm harmonies, and a steady rise toward an emotional, almost cinematic chorus. A thoughtful, evocative release from Gizmosophy, introspective without being heavy-handed, and powerful in its honesty.

Nadine's Indie Treasures: Sadi Kalen
Selected with precision by Nadine de Macedo
When I started my the female producer playlist, I've been given the hint to listen to Sadi Kalen. She produces electronic music for more than 20 years, and works on an acoustic album with an ukulele. My journey started with her album Aphasia, where I listened to "Digital Echos" and "The Alchemist" on repeat. But if you dive deeper into her discography, you will also find songs like "Shadow Dance" or "Toxicology". Despite of checking her out on the usual platforms, I highly recommend listening to some b-sides on SoundCloud.

Until Next Week: As The Year Edges Toward Its Quieter Days

Thank you for taking the time to honour Sarah’s legacy.
Thank you for celebrating Nadine and Sonia’s world premiere with me.
And thank you for keeping this circle of independent voices alive, week after week.
Wherever you’re reading this from: stay close, stay curious, and keep sharing the music that moves you.
The Salon Indie is waiting, and the future is already humming.
With love,
