There is a moment every independent artist knows. You spend weeks. Sometimes months.

Writing. Recording. Mixing. Mastering. Second-guessing every decision.

Then, one day... you press Publish.

For a brief moment, your heart beats a little faster. Maybe this is the song that will find its people. Maybe someone will understand it, will need it today.

So you share it. On social media, in a newsletter. To a few friends.

And then... Silence. 🙃

Let’s talk about this this week… and, by the way, this Sunday, it’s my birthday! I m gonna have a lot of fun with my family and friends - I might be away for some hours after that ahahaha :-)

I call it Sharing Into The Void.

Never before has it been so easy to share music with the world. And never before has it been so difficult to know whether anyone truly experienced it.

A song receives views, streams, likes. And perhaps a handful of comments.

But numbers don't tell us what really happened. Did someone stop what they were doing? Did they listen until the end? Did they replay the chorus? Did they smile or cry?

Did they immediately forget it?

We often know the statistics. We rarely know the story.

For independent artists, silence can be more difficult than rejection. Criticism tells you someone cared enough to react. Silence tells you... almost nothing.

Was the song ignored? Did the algorithm hide it? Was everyone busy?

Wrong release day?

The uncertainty becomes exhausting. Eventually, some artists stop sharing altogether. Not because they stopped creating. Because they stopped believing anyone was listening.

That's a dangerous place to arrive. Because music has always been a conversation.

Not a broadcast.

Social media gives us the impression that everything is visible. It isn't.

Thousands of remarkable songs are released every single day. Not because there are too many talented artists. Because attention is finite.

Every post competes with birthdays (like mine, soon ahaha). Breaking news. Funny videos. Even politics.

Holiday photos. Sports. Cats.

Everything lives in the same endless feed. Your song isn't competing against other songs. It's competing against the entire internet.

No wonder silence has become so common.

When we feel invisible, we tend to think in large numbers. A thousand listeners. Ten thousand streams. A viral post.

But music has rarely changed the world that way. It changed the world one person at a time.

One teenager who finally felt understood. One couple who chose a song for their wedding.

One grieving father who found comfort. One lonely student far from home. One friend sending a link that simply said, "I thought of you."

The statistics may never reveal those stories. That doesn't mean they never happened.

Every now and then, something remarkable occurs. An email arrives. A comment appears months later.

Someone writes, "I discovered this by accident." Or... "I've been listening to this all week."

Suddenly, the silence makes sense. Not because thousands were listening. Because someone truly was.

Music doesn't travel in straight lines. Sometimes it waits, it hides., it reaches the right person exactly when they need it.

Not when the release calendar expected it.

Independent artists often build something that statistics cannot measure. Real relationships.

A listener who replies to a newsletter. A familiar name in the comments. A regular voice in a Discord community. A supporter who returns with every release.

Those aren't followers. They're companions. And perhaps that's the audience every artist secretly hopes for.

Not the biggest one. The most genuine one.

Perhaps that was never the point.

Maybe every song has its own audience.

Not millions.

Not thousands.

Sometimes dozens.

Sometimes hundreds.

Sometimes just one person whose life quietly changes because of it.

That may never become a headline.

But it has always been enough to justify making music.
